Client Story

This is a real case history, with minor details changed to maintain privacy. It shows how the flowers can be combined together in practice, with the selection often changing as treatment progresses, until the central core issue is revealed - 'peeling the onion'.

Bonnie, aged 45, asked for a mixture to stabilize her mood. The past year had been very difficult with the end of her marriage and the loss of her job, and as a result of these events having to move house. She had developed clinical depression but was improving following a course of medication and counseling sessions, combined with active self-help measures such as walking in nature, yoga, painting and writing. She hoped eventually to develop a new career which would make use of her artistic talents, but despite believing she was capable of doing this, she felt many vague fears and doubts. Before the depression she had been a happy person who enjoyed life, though always rather shy.

Many different flowers might have been appropriate in this case, but after mutual discussion we settled on five:

Star of Bethlehem, Walnut, Gentian, Aspen, Larch (click on links for descriptions of these flowers)

At follow-up a month later, Bonnie's depression and sadness had lifted and she felt more optimistic about the future, though self-doubt and anxiety regarding her career path still remained. Her mood fluctuated with the menstrual cycle and she wanted to be 'more balanced'. This time we selected:

Larch, Mimulus, Walnut, Scleranthus

After another month, Bonnie did feel 'more balanced', and described her mood as 'positive' and 'laid-back'. She was making clothes for friends, and planning to expand this into a formal business. We agreed she did not need any more remedies at present.

Six months later, Bonnie asked for an urgent appointment. Her dress-making skills were proving much in demand, and she had started a training course on the business aspects of self-employment. However the latest course assignment had caused her to panic, with a loss of confidence and self-esteem bad enough to make her want to give up. It seemed that similar feelings had prevented her making the most of her talents in the past. A single flower, Larch, was recommended for regular long-term use - also a bottle of Rescue Remedy to keep to hand in case of a crisis.

All this happened three years ago - having completed the course successfully, Bonnie now runs a flourishing fashion design business and has a happy new relationship. Her story shows good results from Bach flower remedies combined with other treatments and the client's own determination to get well.
